Culture

We see the General Students’ Committee’s cultural work just as well as its whole work in a political context. Of course its cultural work should also entertain, but not only. Politics must not fall behind entertainment. It goes without saying that all K19 staff have to receive awareness training in order to provide as little discrimination as possible at the student body’s cultural events. The K19 is there for everyone, but that also means that everyone in the K19 can feel comfortable. Clearly visible posters in the K19 should carry this stance outwardly. The K19 as well as the entire cultural work must not offer any space for reactionary ideology. Whether antisemitism, racism, nationalism, sexism or homo- and transsexual hostility: There has to be trained staff and a clear course in the selection of artists to ensure this.

Independent political groups are to be sought in order to provide them with a place for their next solo party, reading or podium discussion through the low-threshold and cost-effective provision of premises and equipment.

Basically we say: “Subculture first, high culture second.” Of course we think it’s very good that students can go to the theater for free. However, the subcultural offers should not fall behind.
